Spring 2006 Pledge Class sets the bar high

by Andrew Chew and Jacob Sloan

As a result of another successfully executed recruitment, helmed by Rush Captain Evan Sylvester, we were able to rush a large group of men and narrow our selection to six outstanding men. All six who received bids signed and pledged this semester—maintaining our good record retention. With our second fall recruitment class counting as part of our spring class for Interfraternity Council, Acacia had the third largest pledge class. The six pledges were introduced to the active chapter at their induction on Sunday, February 12. Also in attendance were Chapter Advisors Rob Mickam and Marshall Jones.

The newly inducted pledges began their pledge activities right away organized by Senior Dean Adam Miller. The pledge retreat was held the weekend after induction and gave the six men time to exercise their creativity and bond as a group. Following the retreat, the Spring 2006 pledge class presented a t-shirt design for this semester to the actives along with reporting on their work during the retreat. The actives have been impressed since the very start with this fine group. Every one is a great future Acacian. Big Brother assignments came during the second week, and fraternity family received their pledge with pride. The pledge class elected Drew Anderson. He has been extremely responsible in leading the group through pledgeship. Each pledge has demonstrated a dedication towards learning and practicing the values and motto of our fraternity.

This pledge program, winding down for initiation scheduled for the end of April, focused on the knowledge of the Pythagoras, brotherhood between the pledges, and what it means to be a good Acacian. The pledges this semester are having no problem connecting with each other. The Big Brothers have been more involved in the pledge process this semester and have guided this class to a new understanding of what it means to be a member of Acacia Fraternity. The actives cannot wait for this pledge class to contribute its fair share in Acacia for years to come.
